The birthplace of modern dental medicine in Japan Historic City of Yokohama
In September 1865, Dr.W.C. Eastlake arrived at Yokohama where he opened a dental clinic at No.108, Yokohama Foreign Settlement. Western-style dental medicine in Japan was inaugurated by him in Yokohama. For this reason, he is referred to as “The father of modern dentistry” in Japan. foreign dentists hired Japanese dental assistants who learned dental techniques to become dentists later. Yokohama is the place where Japanese dental medicine was transformed into its modern counterpart.
